The Last Week of School

Of course the kids are excited about summer break and ready to be done, but the last week of school (even though teacher appreciation week has already past) I always like to give a few last gifts.

My caramel, chocolate, and graham cracker apples - because a caramel apple would just not do it. I gave these to our teachers, and our secretaries who have done so much for me this year.

A photo book of highlights from different parts of the year. It's Cody's teacher's first year teaching so we thought this would be a great way for her to remember how great it was.

We got Jake's teacher a gift card to Barnes and Noble, since he loves to read.

And we sewed Cody's teacher a quilt
it reads
Dear Mrs. Edwards,
You have been the "Write" teacher
for us.
Thank you for a great year.
Love, Your Class

At the very end we also hand-stitched all of the kids's names

And we made a sham to hold the folded quilt (or a pillow)

☂ We love a Rainy Day ☂

Thankfully my kids love rainy days as much as I do . . .  it's just the kind of day when we get all of our baking done {which is a big plus for my two boys} .
Rainy days were my ultimate favorite as a kid too. They were the days I got to go out and get messy and make mud pies! {I love real mudpie too, but as a kid it was WAY more fun to make them than to eat them.} So when my boys came up and told me how bored they were {which is recently becoming a daily ritual}, I sent them out in the dirt behind my flower bed, where the water always settles. It was a garden fountain with water, but now it's a flower bed.
They had lots of fun.
Look at those hands!
This playhouse {sitting in our backyard} was actually hand-built by my dad for my two girls about fifteen years ago! It was originally built in the backyard of our old house, be when we moved we couldn't bear the thought of leaving it, so we hired a tow truck to move it to where we are now.
The only one in the family who doesn't like the rain would be our doggie. Partially because he's afraid of the thunder, and partially because he does NOT like being wet. He has to be the party pooper.
Like I said, rainy days are for cooking and baking. So beef barley soup, oven baked corn bread, and cookies were a must have. The house smelled SO good!

And later that night  . . .  we took out our laptop, put on Mary Poppins, and planned a little camp out in the backyard in the old playhouse.
